Once you’ve successfully completed a basic or DIY level carpentry course, it makes sense to move on to the next level if you are preparing for City and Guilds 6217-02 certificate and training for carpentry level 2 NVQ qualification.

The carpentry level 2 course will get you working on more advanced carpentry work as well receiving guidance and assistance with organising your competency portfolio together for assessment. At the successful end of your learning journey, you will receive the City and Guilds 6217-02 certificate with a clear path to achieving carpentry level 2 NVQ as well as obtaining a CSCS card (which is now required on any build work in the UK).

All training is hands-on, practical and based on real life applications. Most learning providers will provide tools and materials but you will be required to wear suitable clothing and protective footwear (preferably steel toed), which is compulsory.

Who is the carpentry level 2 course aimed at?

The carpentry level 2 course is ideal for people with competent basic carpentry skills, that will enable them to work on more complex build projects of their own or as part of their career training to become a NVQ qualified carpenter as well as to obtain CSCS status.

Each educational provider’s course content differs from another but in general, the carpenter level 2 course will include emphasis on safety, regulations, materials and equipment selections, alongside more complex carpentry projects, tools, methods and techniques, that in turn could form the basis of a successfully competent carpenter level 2 NVQ completed portfolio for assessment.

After completing the carpentry level 2 course
