About this course
This course is designed for the parent who has a child who is showing some musical promise. If you want to give your child the best possible start on his or her musical journey, regardless of how far they decide to go with it, then this course is your guide.
Why is this course important? Parenting a musically-talented child offers unique sets of both opportunities and challenges. This course helps you identify both of these so you can best support your child. You'll learn how your young musician thinks, acts, reacts and processes things, so you can understand him or her better. You'll learn how to help your child avoid the most common mistakes that musicians make, as well as the many pitfalls in the industry. You'll also get a strong grasp on your role in their musical development.
Lastly, you'll get a powerful overview of many segments of the music industry, including recording, marketing, songwriting, websites, choosing instruments, management, getting gigs, dealing with legal issues and more. Armed with this knowledge you can make wise business decisions and avoid the industry sharks that take advantage of uninformed musicians and/or their parents.
This is a 2 hr. course and is broken down into 8 short videos. It also contains a corresponding workbook. It should take 3-5 hours to complete.
The instructor, Vinny Ribas, has almost 50 yrs. experience in the music industry as an artist, a booking agent, an artist manager, a producer and studio owner, and the entertainment buyer for the NV State Fair. His company, Indie Connect, is a training and networking organization for up-and-coming artists. He is readily available to answer any questions by email at vinny@indieconnect.com.
