About this course

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and the number of Spanish speakers is growing every day. If you are trying to learn Spanish, this course will give you the opportunity to learn basic conversational Spanish. The goal of our program is to teach basic Spanish vocabulary, grammar, literacy, and conversation skills to students with little or no knowledge of the Spanish language.

Beginning Conversational Spanish Module 1
Elements of a Sentence

Module one will look at the basic phrases, letters, and numbers that you need to know in order to begin your basic conversations in Spanish. Additionally, we will explore new Spanish vocabulary for simple parts of speech. Also included in module one is basic pronunciation of the Spanish language.

  • Introduction, Greetings, the Alphabet and Numbers
  • Nouns, Articles, and Adjectives
  • Ser and Estar (Two verbs for "To be") and Present Tense
  • Hay (There is/ There are), Interrogative Words
  • Days of the Week, Months, Seasons, Dates and Time

Beginning Conversational Spanish Module 2
Elements of a Sentence Part 2

Moving in to module two, we will explore how to adjectives and irregular verbs, teaching you how to begin structuring your sentences. Also including in module two are how to use expressions.

  • Possessive and Demonstrative Adjectives
  • Irregular Verbs in the Present Tense
  • The Personal "a", Contractions "al" and "del"
  • Expressing Likes and Dislikes with "Gustar"
  • Negative Expressions

Beginning Conversational Spanish Module 3
Objects, Reflexive Verbs, and the Present Subjunctive

The Spanish language includes new uses of reflexive verbs and pronouns. Module three will identify how to use objects, reflexive verbs and impersonal expressions appropriately.

  • Direct Object Pronouns and Verbs like "Gustar"
  • "Que" as a Relative Pronoun
  • Indirect and Double Object Pronouns
  • New Uses of Reflexive Verbs
  • "Se" and Impersonal Expressions

Beginning Conversational Spanish Module 4
Present Tense, Imperfect Tense, and Double Object Pronouns

In module four students will look at how to communicate using past tense. We will also explore imperfect tense in module four. Also in module four is the identification of verbs with special meaning.
