About this course
This qualification is ideal for staff development and training within the workplace. Learners will develop knowledge and skills in fundamental areas including health and well-being; legislation, frameworks and professional practice; play, development and learning for school readiness; and professional development.
The course has twenty-three mandatory units, which cover key skills related to the role, including safeguarding, promoting healthy lifestyles and emotional well-being, developing children's literacy and mathematical skills, and planning to promote the development of children. Learners will develop their knowledge base and confidence, enabling improved performance in their role.

Mandatory Units:
Units 1 - 5
1. Promote Communication in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
Learners will explore the importance of communication and confidentiality issues in health or social care settings and how to meet individual needs and preferences in communication.
2. Engage in Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's settings
Learners will consider their own personal development and reflective practice which are fundamental to roles within health and social care settings.
3. Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
Throughout this unit, learners will develop their understanding of the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion, and of how to promote good practice and challenge discrimination in the workplace.
4. Principles for Implementing Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
Learners will consider how duty of care contributes to safe practice and how to address problems or complaints.
5. Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
Learners will develop their knowledge of the importance of safeguarding individuals from abuse, how to recognise signs of abuse, the appropriate actions in response to suspected or alleged abuse and how to reduce the risk.
Units 6 - 9
6. The Role of The Health and Social Care Worker
Learners will develop a deeper understanding of their role and the importance of working relationships, including working in partnership with others and how to work in line with policies and procedures.
7. Promote Person-Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care
This unit will increase learners' understanding of person-centred care, considering individuals' rights, choices, privacy, independence, dignity and respect.
8. Promote and Implement Health and Safety in Health and Social Care
Throughout this unit, learners will consider their own responsibilities and the responsibilities of others relating to health and safety, including the procedures for responding to accidents and sudden illness, reducing the spread of infection, implementing security measures and managing stress.
9. Promote Good Practice in Handling Information in Health and Social Care Settings
Learners will develop their understanding of requirements for handling information including legal requirements and codes of practice. Learners will look at relevant legislation such as the Data Protection Act.
