The objective of our Online A-Level Geography Course to develop student's understanding of geographical concepts and processes. During this course the student will learn about the interactions that take place within and between societies, economies, cultures and environments. The student will understand the importance of sustainability and learn about the effect of their and other lives on the world.

Online A-Level Geography Course Structure

The Online A-Level Geography course will include the following topics:

1. Physical and Human Geography

  • The study of core geographical concepts along with contrasting themes of contemporary or environmental impact, management and sustainability.
  • 2. Geographical Skills

  • A geographical skills paper based on the content of Unit 1.
  • Skills include: investigative, cartographic, graphical, ICT and statistical skills.
  • 3. Contemporary Geographical Issues

  • An issues-based approach to contemporary geographical themes.
  • 4. A Geography Field Work Investigation

  • This unit gives candidates the opportunity to extend an area of the subject content into a more detailed fieldwork study.
  • Candidates analyse and evaluate their fieldwork in response to the questions set. In addition, candidates will be assessed on fieldwork skills.
  • During this course you will use a mixture of lessons, activities, core reading and assessments.

    Course Duration

    360 hours GLH (Guided Learning Hours)

    Assessment

    The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give the student valuable feedback on. These are called Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs).

    Examinations

    AS Level

    • Unit 1: GEOG1 Physical and Human Geography- Written examination: 2 Hours
    • Unit 2: GEOG2 Geographical Skills- Written examination: 1 hour

    A2 Level

    • Unit 3: GEOG3 Contemporary Geographical Issues- Written examination: 2 hour 30 minutes
    • Unit 4: either: GEO4A: Geography Fieldwork Investigation, or: GEO4B: Geographical Issue Evaluation- Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

    AS + A2 = A level in Geography. Both AS and A2 level courses and examinations must be successfully completed to gain a full A level.
