Once you’ve successfully completed basic painting or painting and decorating DIY, it makes sense to move on to the next level if you are preparing for City and Guilds training for painting and decorating level 2 qualification.
Each training provider’s course content varies slightly but in general, the painting and decorating advanced course will move on to more complex decorating tasks and may include wallpapering and introduction to plaster substrates as part of the module.
All training is hands-on, practical and based on real life applications. Most learning providers will provide tools and materials but you will be required to wear suitable clothing and protective footwear (preferably steel toed), which is compulsory.

The painting and decorating advanced course is ideal for people with competent basic painting skills, that will enable them to work on more complex decorating projects of their own or as part of their career training to become a NVQ qualified painter as well as to obtain CSCS status.

As mentioned above, each educational provider’s course content differs from another but in general, the painting and decorating advanced course will include emphasis on safety, regulations, materials and equipment selections, alongside more complex decorating projects, tools, methods and techniques, that in turn could form the basis of a successfully competent painting and decorating level 2 NVQ completed portfolio for assessment.
After completing the painting and decorating advanced course
