Similar to carpentry level 2 but more advanced, the carpentry level 3 courses will enable you to achieve City and Guilds level 3 NVQ qualifications.
Some training providers will help you gain practical hands on construction build experience by assigning you to specialist projects as part of your assessments and in turn could be documented and used to form part of your proof of competencies portfolio. These assignments would include design/construction but could also include learning how to estimate a job, ability to site materials and labour costs and how to record, report and document work sites and build works.
The carpentry level 3 course is completely hands-on and onsite. Most learning providers will provide tools and materials but you will be required to wear suitable clothing and protective footwear (preferably steel toed), which is compulsory.

The carpentry level 3 course is ideal for people with competent basic carpentry skills, to enable them to work as a professional City and Guilds qualified carpenter level 3 and to prepare them to undertake level 3 NVQ and CSCS status.

Each educational provider’s course content differs but in general, the carpentry level 3 course will include emphasis on safety, regulations, materials and equipment selections, alongside more complex carpentry projects, tools, methods and techniques, that in turn could form the basis of a successfully competent carpentry level 3 NVQ completed portfolio. During all the phases of the course, you will be guided on best practice, safety and time management and speed without compromising safety and quality. Some training providers provide this course with a joinery module.
After completing the carpentry level 3 course
Upon successful completion of the carpentry level 3 NVQ course, the next step is assessment in order to achieve NVQ level 3 qualifications and obtain a CSCS card.
