About this course
Parenthood remains a core value in American culture, and the drive to become a parent is strong despite the high cost of raising a child. Understanding the motivation for parenthood sets the stage for understanding the beliefs and value system that guides parents as they socialize their children. Parents are not the only influence on socialization, however. Child care providers and schools also influence the socialization process. This course will discuss how parenting motivations and style impact socialization as well as how school settings relate to a child's overall socialization process.
