About this course
The microsystem of Brofenbrenner's ecological model provides much information about how infants and toddlers develop attitudes and beliefs about their world. Individuals primarily involved with young children such as parents, siblings, teachers, have a significant impact on the values and attitudes they develop as they grow. In addition to attitudes and beliefs, it is important to also understand how cognitive skills arise in infancy and childhood and their relationship to the development of later attitudes and beliefs. This course will discuss the basic cognitive skills acquired during infancy and childhood and how different theorists approach this aspect of development. In addition, we will explore how attachment forms in relationships and the development of value and belief systems at the beginnings of life.
