About this course
Parents begin to form ideas about who their children will be and how they will raise them into adulthood before they are even born. Children are first exposed to ideas regarding things such as self-regulation, sense of self, achievement, and social roles in the home. Those ideas are then reinforced or challenged through school, peers, the community, and media. This course will discuss how socialization occurs, including why children differ in their motivation to persevere, how early children can distinguish between right and wrong, and the process of developing a conscience.
