About this course
Most children acquire language with little apparent effort, and it can make language acquisition seem like a simple developmental process. The complexity of language acquisition is often unclear until a child has difficulty with some aspect of speech or language. Regardless of the type of difficulty, families and educators play a significant role in the early diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders. This course will take a close look at communication disorders, differentiating between speech and language disorders, discussing the impact of culture on our perceptions of disorders, and identifying when it is appropriate to refer.
