About this course
Current projections based on the 2010 U.S. Census suggest that the number of residents over the age of 5 speak a language other than English in the home. Second language learning in children bears a strong resemblance to first language learning. Due to bilingualism being the norm globally, there is much information available on second language learning. This course will focus on bilingualism, and how second language learning is different in the home and the school. In addition, we will explore how children acquire language and the critical period during which language learning is optimized.
