Possibly the most publicly scorned woman in history, it’s well known that Hillary Clinton was married to former president Bill Clinton and even more surprisingly is still married to him. We also know that she is the presidential candidate for the Democrats in the upcoming 2016 U.S general election, but what else is there to know? We have found eight facts about Hillary Clinton that you might not already know.
1. Al Qaeda and US connections
Hillary Clinton has basically confessed that the Al Qaeda (see the video below), that we have spent so long fighting and were responsible for the 9/11 atrocities were armed and trained by the United States government. Well, there’s a turn up for the books!
2. Becoming an astronaut
She might currently be running for president, but that wasn’t always her aspiration. When she was a child she wrote to NASA and asked if she could be an astronaut. They wrote back and explained that they didn’t take girls.
3. Hillary Clinton the Marine!
As her hopes and dreams of becoming an astronaut had been dashed she tried to join the Marines in 1975. At twenty-seven years of age she was told that she was too old, wore glasses and was a girl. Sounds like primary school bullying to us! This lady seems to have a history of wanting to do jobs that generally involve entering a ‘man’s world’, so it seems logical that an attempt at presidency would be a next step.
4. Hillary Clinton has a Grammy!
Hillary won a Grammy award in 1997 for best spoken word. This was for her work on the audio book ‘It takes a village’.
5. Clinton's polictical career
As well as being the First Lady while Mr Clinton served as president from 1993-2001 she has also served as the 67th Secretary of State from 2009 until 2013. This woman is no stranger to the white house and we’re certain she’d feel right at home if she had to move back in.
6. Clinton the Republican
Hillary Clinton was raised as a Republican and has over time become more liberal. It’s easy to see that she has a lot of Republican based beliefs as she is still for the death penalty, strongly opposes abortion and it took her an awfully long time before she said anything in favour of gay marriage. In fact, we’re kind of wondering if she accidentally went and ran for the wrong party.
7. The activist
Mrs Clinton was a civil rights activist in her younger years. She took to the streets of Boston in protest when she heard of Martin Luther King’s assassination and was strongly in favour of the civil rights act which would make racial discrimination illegal.
8. Hillary Clinton the lawyer
Before Hillary was a politician she was a lawyer. She was part of the impeachment inquiry into the Watergate scandal that ultimately led to President Nixon resigning from office.
